So, if I lived in Denver, I'd go to the mountains as often as possible. Hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter. Right there for the taking.
And if I lived, say, in Florida, on the coast, well I'd be at beach as often as possible. Sure I would. Right there for the taking.
But if you actually live there, the taking is often for granted.
I know folks in Denver and Florida who rarely do the mountain or beach thing.
So I got to thinking, because I do live here in Indy, of all the things there are to do. Cool things. Fun things. And yet, I just kind of let them slide. They're there for the taking and, just like the folks in the mountains or on the beach, I take them for granted.
So here's a list of my top 10 un-done things I vow I have to do within the next 12 months.
1, A gondola ride on the Central Canal. Now I've done a gondola ride, but it was with a big group. I need to schedule a gondola ride, with one of those Italian-love-song-singing gondoliers, for just my wife and I.
2, The Segway Tour through White River State Park. Again, I've ridden a Segway, but not through the park. Just need to make the effort.
3, Every week, I receive an email from Jeneane Life, who owns the downtown Villa, a great inn, restaurant and spa. It's an offer to enjoy some free wine and chair massage after work on Thursdays. Every week I see that email and think, what a great way to close out the work day. And then I close the email and forget about it. Got to take Jeneane up on her offer.
4, The Carter Toy Museum in Zionsville. No matter the age, we all love toys. And this place even has bump cars. Bump cars! I need to bump into the toy museum and check it out.
5, The Friday night Green Market at Traders Point Creamery, where you can enjoy a delicious all-organic meal while enjoying sunset over the pristine pastures located only about 20 minutes from downtown.
6, Special exhibits at the Indianapolis Zoo. There were koalas there all summer and I thought about seeing them a dozen times. Never acted on it. Now the koalas are gone. Dang it.
7, Summertime movies at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Bring my bride, a picnic basket, a bottle of wine and a blanket and enjoy cinematic classics. Next summer, we do this.
8, Christmas splendor at the President Benjamin Harrison Home. A chance to enjoy the holiday as it was celebrated 130 years ago. It's on my calendar for December. Of course, it was on my calendar for last December, too.
9, Another holiday special, Conner Prairie by Candlelight, which is another option for a look at Christmas long before it became a two-month commercial.
10, Dinner at Buggs Temple, at the upper end of the canal. Friends tell me it's great and the view is supberb. Geez, Bill, pick up the phone and make a reservation.
So there's my top 10 un-done to-do list.
What's on yours?

You've certainly hit on a number of things I've also considered but never acted upon. I've talked about going to Traders Point Creamery for years but I never end up going. For shame. I've talked about the Segway tour but never fit it into my schedule. For shame. Movies at the IMA? Ditto. Now the Moto GP is coming and I won't be there. Again, it's tough to work all of this into the schedule, especially with the kickoff of the NFL and NCAA football. While I haven't done it all, I must say that options are a very good thing.
