It may not feel like autumn this weekend, but it's clear the harvest season is in full swing. The farmer's market last week was full of colorful gourds, delicious apples (Honeycrisp!!), Indian corn and fall mums. This is by far my favorite time of year!
And it wouldn't be October without a trip to the pumpkin patch - whether you live with a gourd-obsessed two year old like me or not. So, when I happened to mention the "P" words casually to my husband the other night, my boy didn't miss a beat. He's been reminding me since then that we're going to the pumpkin patch on Sunday...during the Colts game (this is no bueno)...but, we're going.
This weekend, we're hitting up the Waterman's Fall Harvest Festival with a set of grandparents and a gang of cousins. We went last year, too, and had a great time - it's definitely worth the $5 it costs each person to get in ($4 on weekdays and kids two and under are free). Here's what admission will get you:
• a hayride to the pumpkin patch where you pick your own
• three cornfield mazes, from simple to down-right confusing
• Tyranny, the pumpkin-eating dinosaur
• climbing mountains made of straw
• a tricycle trail
• sand diggers for the youngsters to operate in our sand pile.
• live entertainment on the weekend
• seven huge inflatables to crawl through, climb on and bounce in (new this year!)
Also, stop in their market for fresh produce and yummy baked goods. It's going to be a gourd-eous weekend - get out there and enjoy it. Happy pumpkin picking!

While I fully appreciate your love of pumpkins I must give you a slap on the wrist for your scheduling. I went to Stucky's with my kiddies on Saturday knowing that the Colts were priority on Sunday. Choosing family over football...and you call yourself a fan.
